Support Saturday – Pay It Forward

“Are you sure it’s impossible?” ~ Colleen Wainwright.

Fam, got a question for you…

Are you courageous or depending on how you look at it, crazy enough to set a goal to raise $50,000 for a worthy cause and then shave your head after you succeeded?

Well, writer Colleen Wainwright was. In fact, to celebrate her 50th birthday last year, she launched a campaign to raise $50,000 in 50 days for Write Girl L.A. (A program I coincidentally also volunteer with.)

Using IndieGoGo,  the world leading international funding platform, social media and ole’ fashioned each-one-help-one networking, Colleen not only achieved her goal, she raised nearly $12,000 more.

How did this fledgling blogger with a few loyal followers pull off this impressive miracle? During a recent Write Girl retreat, she shared her common sense secrets with us:

1. “First, care.” ~ Merlin Mann.

2. Always be awesome.

3. Make it easy and fun.

4. Make it easy to remember.

5. Visually brand yourself. See Colleen’s logo above.

6. Make it easy to share.

7. Give anybody who wants to be involved something to do.

8. Create small, medium and big versions of everything.

9. Offer treats as incentives, but not all of the time.

10. Promote your cause 90% of the time and yourself 10% of the time. It’s not about you.

Good stuff, right? I know!

Fam, I was so inspired by Colleen — you know the whole time she was talking, all I was thinking about was sharing this info with you right? — that I researched some additional fundraising tools that you, too, can use to be of service.

Here’s the link — 24 tools for fundraising with social media

Whether you’re raising a small amount of cash or a boatload like Colleen, these tools can help you make a difference.

All you have to do is choose your cause, pick your tools and pay it forward.
